Jeffrey Blankfort (in a comment on this article) says of HaCohen:
Ran HaCohen has been in this struggle for a long time. It was his criticism of the Israeli Labor Federation, Histadrut's close business ties with apartheid South Africa which was the basis of the Labor Committee on the Middle East's first action in August 1987 in San Francisco when we protested the annual dinner being hosted for the Histadrut by the San Francisco Labor Council. Whether or not it was because of our well publicized protest, that was not only the last dinner hosted by the Labor Council for the Histadrut, but it led to the Histadrut closing its San Francisco office (yes, it had an office in the Restaurant and Hotel Workers building!), and left town for friendly pastures.
